Bushcraft survival at NPF Bassetts Pole gives both adults and children alike the opportunity to get back to nature in some of the Midlands most beautiful coppiced natural woodland. Set right in the heart of the West Midlands, our courses offer a unique and varied landscape in which to learn valuable outdoor survival and bushcraft skills or hone existing ones. Surrounded by wildlife, the bushcraft camp is set in the centre of the woodland, with easy access to parking.
Bushcraft courses came to NPF very recently after a visit from an experienced bushcraft instructor – Mr Dale Collett – who founded the British Bushcraft School over 8 years ago. He runs bushcraft and outdoor survival courses along with other instructors all over the country, and has made NPF Birmingham’s bushcraft camp one of his “home camps”.
NPF is located in Birmingham, West Midlands and offers courses that are simple 1-day exercises right through to survival bushcraft weekends, where participants have the opportunity to stay overnight.
Bushcraft is a vast subject and a course at NPF Birmingham will guide and tutor you through all aspects of survival shelter construction, identifying wild edibles for survival food, working with survival tools, making fine cordage, providing a nutritional diet, learning about survival kit and gear, natural navigation, making wonderful carvings, observing wildlife and learning essential wilderness journey skills, as well as many others.
Bushcraft days can be tailored to suit all ages and are fast becoming a great option for schools, colleges and youth group outings. January at NPF saw a hardy bunch of 6 to 8-year-olds experiencing new skills and knowledge in an expertly-led session. Basic techniques of survival and shelter building were taught against a backdrop of “surviving a plane crash”…the children were totally engaged and enthralled by what nature has to offer right on their doorstep.
